SHEET MASK INFORMATION

What does seasonal skincare mean?

The menstrual cycle is likened to the seasons of the year. Each week of your cycle can feel like the seasons. For example, Winter is when your period starts and you can often feel like hibernating. As you move through each season your hormones are fluctuating causing different symptoms including changes in your skin. By understanding which season you are in, you can better understand your skin and stay one step ahead of hormonal skin.

How does Winter Revival help my hormonal skin?

The Winter Revival Hydrating Sheet Mask has been developed to help revive skin in week 1 of your cycle.  This is when your hormones can be at their lowest and your skin can feel drier and more sensitised than normal.   The milky serum formulation contains active ingredients to help hydrate, condition and replenish the skin.

How does Spring Renewal help my hormonal skin?

The Spring Renewal Exfoliating Sheet Mask has been developed to help stimulate your skin in week 2 of your cycle.  This is when oestrogen production restarts which can encourage skin cell turnover.  This formulation will help to optimise this process by exfoliating and encouraging the cell turnover process to help reveal healthy-looking skin.

How does Summer Sensation help my hormonal skin?

The Summer Sensation Dewy Glow Sheet Mask has been developed to optimise your skin in week 3 of your cycle.   This is when oestrogen peaks and your skin can be at its best during your cycle.  This anti-ageing formulation optimises this phase to help smooth, firm and soften your skin.

How does Autumn refiner help my hormonal skin?

The Autumn Refiner Balancing Sheet Mask has been developed to help treat your skin in week 4 of your cycle.  This is often when your skin is at its worst as progesterone rises and activates sebum production.  This can cause oily, congested skin leading to hormonal spots.   This formulation and mask help to soak up excess oil, unclog pores and help to reveal mattified balanced skin and help prevent breakouts.

When should I use the masks?

We recommend syncing the masks to the phases of your cycle so you can stay ahead of hormonal skin.  We know this can be different for everyone so knowing which season affects you the most will help you decide which mask to use when.

As a guide, we recommend:

Winter Revival for dry, dehydrated and sensitised skin.

Spring Renewal to exfoliate for radiant-looking skin.

Summer Sensation when you want to boost and plump your skin.

Autumn Refiner for oily, congested skin.

Can I use them at different times in my cycle?

Yes! Everybody’s cycle is different and so is their skin, you may only experience a few symptoms during your cycle or you may get them all.  Sync the right mask for when is right for you, your skin and your cycle.

How do I know which mask to use in each week of my cycle?

Each week of your cycle is like a season.   Winter is week 1 of your cycle, Spring is week 2,  Summer is week 3 and Autumn is week 4. We recommend using the right seasonal mask according to each season of your cycle.

How do I know when week 1 of my cycle is?

Week 1 is the first day of your period when you have a steady blood flow.

Can I use all 4 masks?

Yes! They are designed to be used each week of your cycle to sync with your skin as your hormones fluctuate.

How often can I use them?

You can use them as and when you need them, with the exception of the Spring Renewal Exfoliating Sheet Mask.  This mask contains exfoliating acids and we do not recommend using this more than once a week and always follow with SPF if using in the daytime.

Why do I have to wear SPF after using the Spring Renewal Exfoliating Sheet Mask?

The Spring Renewal mask contains AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids). Using chemical exfoliants like AHA’s can cause the skin to become more sensitive to the sun.  It’s important to always protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays but even more important after using products that contain AHA’s.

How long should I use the masks for?

If you have the time, sit back and relax for 15 minutes.

Which skin types are the masks suitable for?

The masks are suitable for all skin types.

I have sensitive skin, can I still use the masks?

All our masks are Hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types. However, if you have very sensitive skin we recommend checking the ingredients for anything that might cause you irritation.

Is the packaging recyclable?

We have tried to make our packaging as environmentally friendly as possible. Our sachet packaging is one of the first patented to be made from a single material and we have removed the additional plastic backing sheet, making it much easier to recycle.

How should I recycle the packaging?

As recycling can vary depending on your location, please check with your local services.

Where are the masks made?

The face masks are made in France.

What is the mask made of?

The sheet mask is made of 100% certified organic cotton, with the exception of the Autumn Refiner Balancing Sheet Mask which is made from viscose and activated charcoal.

Are the masks cruelty free?

Yes-  Yoppie is Peta certified, this means Yoppie does not and will not test on animals for all its current and future products.

Do you test on animals?

No- Yoppie is Peta certified, this means Yoppie does not and will not test on animals for all its current and future products.

PERIOD PRODUCTS INFORMATION

What are Yoppie tampons made from?

Yoppie tampons are made with breathable, 100% certified organic cotton that has been purified without chlorine meaning they’re hypoallergenic, unscented and produced without harmful chemicals.

Both of our applicator and non-applicator tampons are completely plastic-free and come in paper wrappers meaning they’re fully recyclable. They are also colour coded for each absorbency!

Our applicator tampons have a recyclable cardboard applicator. While our non-applicator tampons are made with new and improved technology with a security veil that covers the whole tampon to give a robust fibre shedding solution.

What are Yoppie pads and liners made from?

Yoppie organic pads & pantyliners are made with breathable, 100% certified organic cotton that has been purified without chlorine and they’re hypoallergenic, unscented and produced without harmful chemicals. We also use waterproof backings that are biodegradable and compostable.

Do Yoppie organic tampons offer the same leak protection as conventional products?

Yes: both our applicator and non-applicator tampons conform to the standard absorbencies set out in the Industry Code of Practice applied throughout Europe:

Regular (6-9g)

Super (9-12g)

Super Plus (12-15g)

Our octagonal design increases the total absorption area whilst remaining easy to insert.

Yoppie tampons are designed to expand widthways inside your body, for superior leak protection and comfort.

Do Yoppie organic pads offer the same performance and leak protection as non-organic (conventional) pads?

Yes - our pads will offer the same level of protection as a non-organic cotton pad which is similar in width and length. We have performed thorough comparisons with brands in the market and we can confidently say that Yoppie pads offer the same protection as conventional pads and that conform to industry standards on fluid absorption levels.

Conventional pads typically consist of a large percentage of plastic and plastic-derived gels within the absorbent core.  At Yoppie we use one of nature’s most absorbent materials - cotton. Organic cotton pads can take a little getting used to at first as the absence of chemicals and absorbent gel core can initially feel more moist than conventional pads, but don’t give up!

Our adhesive back sheet is made from a specially designed biofilm, which is waterproof yet biodegradable and compostable. Wings help secure the pad but also protect your underwear at the sides.

We recommend Night pads for your heavier days or overnight, and Day pads for regular / lighter days.

What tampon absorbency levels do Yoppie offer?

Yoppie offers the following absorbency levels:

For non-applicator tampons

  • Regular: 6-9g (fluid absorbency)
  • Super: 9-12g
  • Super Plus: 12-15g

For applicator tampons:

  • Regular: 6-9g
  • Super: 9-12g

Are Yoppie products hypoallergenic?

Yes - all of our products are hypoallergenic, as tested by an independent laboratory. Hypoallergenic products are much less likely to lead to irritation and allergic reactions. Health professionals normally recommend natural cotton products for those with sensitive skin or who are prone to dryness and PH-imbalance.

Are Yoppie products vegan and cruelty-free?

All of our products are vegan, cruelty free, and we are certified by PETA. At no point in our manufacturing, packing or distribution process are Yoppie products tested on animals.

How do I use Yoppie tampons?

Always wash your hands before and after inserting a tampon. When you are inserting or removing your tampon make sure you are relaxed and take your time.

To use our non-applicator tampons:

  1. Unwrap your tampon and unravel the string. Make sure the string is connected to the tampon. If the string is not secure throw the tampon away and use another.
  2. Push the tampon gently inside the vagina. Push upwards and backwards as far as possible so the tampon cannot be felt.
  3. The string should be hanging outside your body.
  4. When inserted correctly you should not be able to feel your tampon. If you can still feel the tampon it means it’s not far in enough. If it is not positioned correctly, remove the tampon and try again with a fresh one.
  5. When it’s time to remove your tampon, relax and gently pull on the string and your tampon should slide out.

To use our applicator tampons:

  1. Unwrap your tampon
  2. Find a comfortable position
  3. Place the tip of the applicator into the vaginal opening. Gently slide the applicator into your vagina, until your fingers touch your body and you’ve inserted the first tube of the applicator fully.
  4. Push the inner tube fully inside the outer tube.
  5. To remove the applicator, firmly hold on to the tubes and pull them gently, leaving the tampon inside your body and the string hanging outside.
  6. When the tampon is correctly placed you should not feel anything. If you can still feel the tampon it means it’s not far in enough, if it is not positioned correctly remove the tampon and try again with a fresh one.
  7. When it’s time to remove your tampon, relax and gently pull on the string and your tampon should slide out.

Please refer to the instruction leaflet inside your Yoppie tampon pack for instructions and information.

How do I use Yoppie pads?

Only ever use pads when you are menstruating and always wash your hands before and after changing pads and liners.

Remove the outer wrap, unfold the pad, remove paper strips and pull out the wings. Place the adhesive side onto the inside of your underwear.

Always change pads regularly and use lower absorbencies (day pads) on your lighter days.

Who can or cannot use tampons?

Most people who menstruate can safely use tampons, provided that you follow the instructions we provide in our pack. However, do not use tampons if you have recently given birth or have otherwise been advised not to by a medical professional.

Will using a tampon hurt?

First-time users may experience a little discomfort the first few times - start off with our regular tampon (using our pads or liners as a back-up if necessary).

Try to relax your muscles as best you can. Generally, you should not be able to feel a tampon if it is properly inserted.

Contrary to popular myth you can’t “push it in too far” so - if you can feel it - try and push in a little further with your fingers, or try a smaller size first.

If you experience discomfort upon removing your tampon, you are probably using too high an absorbency level for the volume of your flow: try the next size down or - for very light days - switch to a liner.

How do I know which tampon absorbency level to use?

Use the lowest absorbency you can for your flow level: put simply, higher absorbency for heavy days and lower absorbency for lighter days.

While more absorbent tampons do hold more menstrual blood, that doesn’t mean you need them for your entire period: never use a high absorbency tampon on light days, just so that you can use it for longer (beyond 4 - 8 hours).

If you are not sure, start with a low absorbency tampon (using a pad or liner for back-up if necessary), switch to a higher absorbency if your tampon is soaked through very quickly - until you get to know your cycle a little better.

How do I know which pad absorbency to use?

We have a choice of 3 pad absorbencies; Light, Regular and Heavy.

If your flow is light, this usually means you change your period product every 3-5 hours, we recommend the Light Pad for day and the Regular pad for overnight.

If your flow is regular, this usually means you change your period products every 2-3 hours, we recommend the Regular Pad.

If your flow is heavy, this usually means you change your period products every 1-2 hours, we recommend the Regular Pad for day and the Heavy Pad for overnight.

If your flow is very heavy, this usually means you change your period products every hour, and the products are completely saturated, we recommend the Heavy Pad.

How should I dispose of Yoppie products after use?

Do your bit and please recycle our packaging. Please also make sure you dispose of your tampons, pads, liners and wrappers in a waste bin and don’t flush them down the toilet.

Flushing our products down the toilet can block toilets and pipes (yes, even tampons!). It also increases the risk of them ending up in our marine environment. Even natural products still take a few months to break down.

How does Yoppie help me have a healthier period?

There is no single factor that makes for a healthier period, but what makes Yoppie unique is our determination to tackle as many of the barriers to healthy periods as we can - all in one place.

What is the difference between “natural” tampons and organic cotton tampons?

“Natural” does not necessarily mean organic or toxin-free. As more information has come to light about some of the nasties found in conventional period products, some well known brands have launched 'Natural' lines: made of cotton (as opposed to the common mix of cotton, synthetics and plastics).

Cotton is natural, right? Yes - but what isn’t mentioned is that (non-organic) cotton is one of the world’s dirtiest and most pesticide-ridden crops which has led to concerns about the risk of pesticide traces in the end product.

At Yoppie, we only ever use cotton that is 100% certified organic that has been purified without chlorine bleach and grown without dangerous pesticides or herbicides.

What is TSS and will using organic products prevent this from happening?

TSS (toxic shock syndrome) is a rare, but serious illness caused by a toxin-producing strain of Staphylococcus bacteria that can sometimes be fatal. The good news is there are many ways to prevent it.

TSS can occur in both men and women of any age as a result of burns, bites or even surgery. With around half of all cases occurring in menstruating females, TSS has been linked to tampon use so knowing about it is especially important for girls and women.

There is, as of today, no scientific proof that using organic tampons will prevent TSS, as bacteria can still build in any material - natural or synthetic - over time: so, it’s important that you change a Yoppie or ANY tampon you use frequently.

How can tampon users reduce the risks of TSS?

To reduce the risk of TSS:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before and after inserting a tampon
  • Change your tampon every 4-8 hours (or more, if necessary)
  • Use the lowest absorbency tampon for your flow
  • We would also recommend switching to a pad or liner every now and then during your period
  • Never use 2 tampons at once and never use a tampon when you are not menstruating.
  • Remember to remove your tampon at the end of your period.
  • If you use tampons at night, always insert a fresh tampon before going to bed and remove as soon as you wake up.
  • Never leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours - if you are having a lie-in, use a pad.

How long do the products take to biodegrade?

Raw cotton usually takes approximately 6 months to degrade.

Why do Yoppie products cost more than the high street brands?

Organic and sustainable products are a little bit more expensive to make sure we can work with the best products and ensure the rights of the workers in the whole cultivation and production chain, from harvesting the cotton to the end product. Plus, we offer free delivery straight to your door!

Are the pads suitable for incontinence?

The pads are not suitable for incontinence as incontinence pads have a special absorbent part which helps to keep the pad dry and eliminates odours.
